2. Preference storage
Your theme choice, display currency and dismissed announcements are stored in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are not transmitted to us, and can be cleared through your browser.
Before you have chosen a display currency, we guess one. First from your device's timezone and language, which happens entirely inside your browser. Then, to correct that guess, your IP address is matched against a country database held on our own server.
That lookup is deliberately not outsourced. The database file sits on our server, so your IP address is not sent to any third party, no geolocation service is involved, and there is nobody to name here as a recipient. The result tells us a country, never a street or a person, and it is cached against your address for an hour and then forgotten.
The country database is GeoLite2, created by MaxMind and available from https://www.maxmind.com. We hold a copy of it; MaxMind receives nothing about you.
It affects only which prices are shown to you. What you are actually charged, which company you contract with and what tax applies are all determined by the billing address you enter at checkout, never by anything inferred from your connection. An address can be wrong, a VPN is common, and none of that should quietly change the terms of a sale.
3. Live chat
Our live chat is provided by Tawk.to. The widget is fetched from Tawk.to's servers when a page loads and sets cookies on your device so a conversation stays attached to you across pages and return visits, and so an agent can see whether you have spoken to us before.
This happens whether or not you open a conversation. Tawk.to receives your IP address, your browser details and the pages you view while the widget is loaded. Anything you type into a chat is stored by Tawk.to on our behalf.
Because the widget loads on every page, it is currently set before you have given any consent. That is consistent with the standard we apply outside the EU, EEA and UK, but not with the prior opt-in standard in section 5, and it is being addressed rather than left unstated.

4. Analytics and marketing
Non-essential analytics and marketing cookies are set only with your consent, and consent can be withdrawn at any time.

5. How consent works where you live
The rule for non-essential cookies is not the same everywhere. We apply the standard that fits your location rather than the weakest one:

6. What we serve ourselves
Most of what would usually be a third-party request is served from our own infrastructure instead, so visiting a page discloses far less about you than it otherwise would:
- Fonts are self-hosted. No request is made to a third-party font service.
- The server-location map on our home page is drawn from a map outline built into the page. There is no tile provider, no map API key, and no request to a mapping service when you view it.
- We embed no social media widgets, advertising pixels or analytics trackers on our marketing pages. The live chat widget in section 3 is the one third-party script we load, and it is named rather than buried.
