Draft, pending professional review
This document is a working draft prepared for review by a qualified legal adviser. It is not legal advice, and it is not the final agreement. Highlighted passages mark positions that must be settled before publication.
Your theme choice, display currency and dismissed announcements are stored in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device, are not transmitted to us, and can be cleared through your browser.
Before you have chosen a display currency, we guess one from your device's timezone and language settings. That guess is made entirely inside your browser: no lookup is performed, your IP address is not sent anywhere to determine your location, and the result is not stored. It affects only which prices are shown to you. What you are actually charged, and by which entity, is determined by the billing address you enter at checkout, never by anything inferred from your device.
Our live chat is provided by Tawk.to. The widget is fetched from Tawk.to's servers when a page loads and sets cookies on your device so a conversation stays attached to you across pages and return visits, and so an agent can see whether you have spoken to us before.
This happens whether or not you open a conversation. Tawk.to receives your IP address, your browser details and the pages you view while the widget is loaded. Anything you type into a chat is stored by Tawk.to on our behalf.
Because the widget loads on every page, it is currently set before you have given any consent. That is consistent with the standard we apply outside the EU, EEA and UK, but not with the prior opt-in standard in section 5, and it is being addressed rather than left unstated.
Placeholder, pending verification: LIVE CHAT CONSENT GATING FOR EU, EEA AND UK VISITORS — TO BE CONFIRMED
Non-essential analytics and marketing cookies are set only with your consent, and consent can be withdrawn at any time.
Placeholder, pending verification: ANALYTICS AND ADVERTISING PROVIDERS IN USE — TO BE CONFIRMED BEFORE LAUNCH
The rule for non-essential cookies is not the same everywhere. We apply the standard that fits your location rather than the weakest one:
| Where you are | Standard we apply |
|---|---|
| France and the rest of the EU or EEA | Prior opt-in, following the ePrivacy Directive and CNIL guidance: refusing must be as easy as accepting, and consent is recorded. Section 3 sets out where our live chat does not yet meet this. |
| United Kingdom | Prior opt-in under PECR, on the same basis as the EU. |
| United States | Opt-out, with a means of exercising it where state law provides one. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. |
| Australia and New Zealand | Notice and the ability to opt out, alongside our Privacy Act obligations. |
| Singapore | Consent under the PDPA, which we treat as opt-in for anything non-essential. |
| Canada | Meaningful consent under PIPEDA, opt-in for anything a reasonable person would consider sensitive. |
| Nepal and elsewhere | Notice and an opt-out, and we apply the opt-in standard by default. |
Most of what would usually be a third-party request is served from our own infrastructure instead, so visiting a page discloses far less about you than it otherwise would:
