1. Why this policy exists
Some plans advertise unmetered bandwidth or an unlimited number of sites, mailboxes or databases. That means there is no per-unit charge, not that infrastructure is infinite. This policy sets out the boundary in plain terms, which is more honest than advertising unlimited and enforcing it silently.
In Australia and New Zealand, describing a service as unlimited when it is subject to limits can be misleading conduct under the Australian Consumer Law and the Fair Trading Act 1986. Stating the boundary plainly is how we stay on the right side of that, and it is also simply the truthful way to describe the product.
2. What unmetered means
There is no charge per gigabyte transferred. Your usage is bounded instead by the CPU, memory, I/O, entry process and inode limits published for your plan, which are stated on every plan and in the comparison table.
3. What unlimited means
There is no numeric cap applied to the count of sites, mailboxes or databases. Each still consumes resources from your plan's allocation, and the practical limit is that allocation.
4. Normal use
Normal use is running websites and associated email. The following are not normal use on a shared platform:
- Using the account primarily as file storage, a backup target or a media distribution point unrelated to a hosted website.
- Sustained maximum resource consumption over long periods, where the workload belongs on a server of its own.
- Operating a service on behalf of third parties in a way that turns one shared account into a hosting platform, other than on a reseller plan.
5. What happens if you exceed it
We contact you with the specific resource, the measurements, and a recommendation. You get a reasonable opportunity to address it or to move to a suitable plan. Immediate limitation is reserved for cases where a single account is materially degrading service for others.
